Rice Visual Arts and Design

Rice University has the arts instilled in the fabric of the campus. The Visual Arts and Design named the Susan and Fayez Sarofim Hall to commemorate the donors of Rice’s art collections and growth. The campus’s focus is to create a seamless indoor and outdoor work area as well as student gathering welcoming the community to the student’s work. The landscape will introduce a screening area to invite the community to enjoy movies and outdoor events.

The site is home to a tree planted by Andy Warhol. The design highlights both the tree and the visual arts and design deck. The site creates a connection to the street inviting the community to utilize the space. The existing site contains beautiful planting that is brought to the deck and flexible deck area. The deck consists of a series of monumental steps, seat walls, and vegetation that the students can enjoy.
